Lesson of the Day #14 - Hired Hand Brewing Company

Hired Hand is the latest endeavor by award winning chef Ian Huizenga. Inspired by his upbringing in Monkton, his dishes and brews feature the best of Vermont’s own ingredients.

Starting in 2009 with the basement speakeasy Bar Antidote, which still features a lengthy local tap list, Huizenga expanded to the upstairs with Hired Hand in 2016. This gastro pub takes the dishes to a new level, but it’s the chef’s own brews that sets it apart from the bar downstairs.

Hire Hand has released a variety of it’s own beers including IPAs, Red Ales, etc. that the chef has mixed up into beer cocktails, there are even a milk stout floats and shakes.

Trivia: Vergennes is the smallest of Vermont’s 9 cities with a population just under 3000.

There are about 50 towns in Vermont with higher populations but are not incorporated as cities.

The other 8 cities in Vermont in descending order of populations are: Burlington, South Burlington, Rutland, Barre, Montpelier, Winooski, St. Albans, and Newport.
