Lesson of the Day #13 - Drop In Brewing Co.

Scottsman Steve Parkes graduated Heriot-Watt University in Edinbugh with a degree in brewing science. He and his wife Christine purchased the prestigious American Brewers Guild 20 years ago and over the years have gained a strong reputation as a premier school for craft brewing.

In 2009 Steve won the Brewers Association Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing

Students can attend the Guild in person or take courses online to learn the science of brewing and how to one day open their own brewery. Programs range from a few days to 6 months.

Steve & Christine, opened their own brewery in 2012 in an old plumbing supply building in Middlebury VT. While Drop-In Brewing Company’s tasting room is not high-end or designer (it’s very unpretentious and filled with beer kitsch and memorabilia) it’s beers are highly praised and popular throughout the state. They also like to have fun naming their brews, such as Draft Punk and Kitten Death Star.

Trivia: The oldest known recipe ever discovered is for beer.
